2010-06-01 17:06:07 - If you're looking for a career in law, then using the Compare Legal Jobs recruitment website can help you.

Whether you're a newly qualified lawyer emerging from years of rigorous study to take your first step into the job market, or a legal professional in search of your next departure, CompareLegalJobs.com may well be your best career resource.

It's an online job board with a difference. Aimed at making optimal matches between employer and candidate, it endeavours to promote the

best interests of both parties. You won't find any recruitment consultants on the site, because CompareLegalJobs already fulfils their best functions and manages to provide a service which is far superior to any such agency - or any typical jobs board, for that matter.

Those seeking employment opportunities can rest assured in the knowledge that all the jobs advertised on the site are wholly bona fide, with every last one meticulously linked to an identifiable employer. Every employer, in fact, has a unique 'microsite, which promotes their organisation but also offers valuable information on the company under consideration. The site displays an enormous range of jobs, and you can compare roles using personal search criteria. You'll also be able to choose whether to send your application direct to the employer or pass it under the noses of CompareLegalJobs' Recruitment Consultants first, who'll progress the application on your behalf. This option can be especially helpful for the more hesitant of applicants: the site's Recruitment Consultants, who are not commission based, will offer a genuinely unbiased and professional evaluation of the market, the jobs you're applying for and whether your application could do with some further work.

Moreover, prospective candidates will have access to confidential advice from an online community of professionals, with whom ideas can be shared and questions answered. The site also has its very own Career Centre, offering advice on anything from writing the best CV, the pragmatics of networking and building valuable professional relationships, to evaluating your strengths via psychometric testing.

The jobs on offer are so numerous because employers also trust the site, which offers them an unrivalled service. It's an 'employer only' website, for one thing, with no advertisements from agencies permitted. But employers also know that they will be able to draw from a pool of outstanding candidates covering all aspects of the legal market, including Associates and Assistants, newly qualified lawyers and paralegals. And employers, too, benefit from the work of CompareLegalJobs' specialist legal Recruitment Consultants, who can provide a live and mutually beneficial bridge between company and applicant.

Career counselor Derrick Dortch will chat about job ... - Washington Post

Federal hiring freeze? I've heard from two people who do some hiring at large federal agencies in D.C. Both say they anticipate a hiring freeze in the federal government sometime in 2011. Can you say when this might occur and how we can anticipate it? Why would that happen? I plan to look for a new government job toward the end of this year.

Derrick Dortch: Hiring freezes are very much based on what agency you are talking to. There are expected to be increases in hiring in the departments of Defense, Homeland Security Justice and Health and Human Services and in the intelligence community. Each of these departments and the agencies under them will be hiring.

But when some agencies get more, other agencies will get less. As some agencies will be ramping up, some other agencies' budgets may stay the same or decrease depending on how appropriation dollars will be distributed.

Let me give you some examples. The FBI has said it needs to hire more than 800 personnel in 2011. I have talked to people from the U.S. Marshals Service and they indicated that they will need to hire hundreds of individuals. In my conversations with the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, they have indicated they need to hire close to 100 personnel. In talking to various agencies that deal with procurement, they have indicated they need to hire about 100 personnel or more. The Bureau of Prisons is hiring a good number of people; the Department of Veterans Affairs is hiring; the Nuclear Regulatory Commission is hiring.

Many agencies are hiring. If there is a time to look for a government job and get into the government, the time is between now and 2012, in my opinion.
