Berner wants job back, will run for mayor of Avon Lake - Morning Journal

Posted:

Berner

LORAIN — Former Avon Lake Mayor Rob Berner wants his old job back. Berner announced his candidacy for the November election yesterday.

"I chose to run again mainly because my career path brings me back to Avon Lake. I have the leadership skills and knowledge to be a respected leader for the city of Avon Lake," Berner said.

After his time as mayor, Berner served as safety service director in Port Clinton from February 2008 to December 2009.

Currently, Berner is the executive director of the Lorain County Rural Wastewater District. Berner said if he is elected mayor, he will leave his position at the wastewater district.

If elected, he said, he will first focus on efficiency in the local government.

"One of the things you have to understand in public administration is public entities don't have the money they used to have," Berner said. "They have to do things more efficiently. We have to get people better trained and doing more things."

While Berner was mayor, Avon Lake saw an influx of business. He said if elected he would return to focusing on economic development.

"I would do the same things as I did in the past," he said. "I would basically be the economic developer for the city."
