| People upbeat about switching jobs, poll says - Boston Globe Posted: 07 Jan 2011 07:17 AM PST Many folks who still had jobs hunkered down during the recession, but now that the economy has shown signs of improving, a growing number are starting to search again for a better job. So suggests a new online survey from Monster.com, the job-search website with much of its operations in Maynard. "With the New Year comes new resolutions, and Americans are making it known that they are optimistic about getting a fresh start in the coming year," Charles Purdy, Monster.com career-advice expert, said in a statement. "We've seen for a while now that skilled jobs are on the rise. And as the economy starts to get back on its feet, we believe that they'll continue to be in demand, making 2011 the year of the new job -- but not just any job. Now, workers are looking for positions that inspire them and challenge them to rise to the occasion. At the same time, employers are increasingly looking to hire the best people for open roles, not just settling for a 'good enough' candidate." A new job with a new employer topped the career wish list of 66 percent of those participating in its poll, Monster.com said in a press release. The results are from an ongoing series of online polls that gauge users' opinions on such topics as careers, the economy, and the workplace. The poll reflects the opinions of only those Internet users who have chosen to participate, Monster.com cautioned. Monster.com has business relationships with many media organizations, including The New York Times, owner of The Boston Globe and Boston.com. Mix 96.9, a Clear Channel music station, offered Palin a job as a co-host on the station's morning show. She recently bought a house in the area. Ron Price, the station's director, assured New Times that the offer was not a stunt. "It is an official offer to a very well-known personality, who may be looking for a new career in what will most likely be her new home state," Price said. In a letter to Palin, the station said her "natural talent" led them to make the offer.
