'King's Speech' Star Colin Firth On Acting; Not A Job For Grown Ups? - Post Chronicle

The 'King's Speech' star is unsure if he would choose to follow a career in Hollywood if he had made the decision later in life as he only fell into the profession as a teenager who wasn't ready for adult life.

He said: "It doesn't seem very much like a job for grown-ups. I honestly don't know that I'd make the choice today to pursue it.

"Mine was the decision of a teenager who didn't want to grow up and wanted to play-act."

However, he does believe being older does make him enjoy his profession more.

The 50-year-old star told NJ.com: "I will say my age has made acting more interesting lately, because I think middle age is interesting.

"You have a past and, hopefully, a future, and thankfully that's provided some interesting material. It's given everything a new lease on life for me."

Colin also hints some of his previous movies have not been good experiences because he has not got on with his co-stars.

Asked what it is like working with people he is unsure of, he said: "Misery. Utter misery. Because you are trying to manufacture something that's supposed to be happening naturally. And I think everyone knows what that's like, in some area of life.

"If you're in sports and you're just not on form that day. Or if you're with your lover, and the chemistry is just not there. You can't make things like that happen.

"And I'll tell you, if the other people involved in the project are not that good, it doesn't make you look any better. It's quite the reverse, actually. You look your best when you're working with someone better than you." (c) BANG

County to close job transition center in Moraine - Dayton Daily News

Posted: 29 Nov 2010 09:25 PM PST

Staff report 12:27 AM Tuesday, November 30, 2010

MORAINE — The Career Transition Center will shut down in December and its 13 employees will be merged into the Job Center in Dayton, the Montgomery County Department of Job & Family Services said Monday.

The consolidation at the Job Center, 1111 Edwin C. Moses Blvd., is to begin Dec. 20 and will include the relocation of county and state employment personnel.

There will be no interruption of services to job seekers, county officials said.

The center is at 4257 Dryden Road near the former General Motors Corp. assembly plant in Moraine. It was established in July 2005 as a temporary center to help workers who lost jobs in the automotive and manufacturing industries in the Dayton area. The number of its first-time users has declined, county officials said.

More than 6,000 job-seekers have used the center's resources. A total of 1,970 used training and educational services available through the center and 823 secured jobs, county officials said.
