Create and control your Internet image
Every professional should have an online presence, be it LinkedIn, Youtube or Facebook. Since many employers research job candidates on the Internet, it is vitally important to take control of your online identity and carefully monitor the "personal brand" you build on the Internet.

Perform an 'internal career audit'
Summer is the ideal time to take an honest look at your career — where you've been, where you are today and where you want to go. Identify new goals and take action.

Make connections
Expand your job-search network and follow up with people you've already met. In many cases, people who work during the summer heat will not only be available for conversation, but will also be happy just to speak with someone.

The Career Ministries at the Archdiocese of Detroit is holding a free workshop for job seekers from 6-9 p.m. today at St. Isidore Catholic Church at 18201 23 Mile Road in Macomb, Michigan.

There will be resume coaches on hand for the first hour as well as human relations and recruiting managers from local companies, including Compuware and Energy Conversion Devices, to answer questions.

The event is open to people of all faiths.
